Semi-Private Coaching: A Dynamic, Supportive Approach to Performance Training

Our semi-private coaching model offers the perfect balance of personalised attention and group energy, and is by far our most popular training modality. With a coach-to-athlete ratio of no more than 1:5, each athlete receives focused, individualised guidance while benefiting from the motivating environment of working alongside like-minded athletes. Based on age, growth & maturation data, and initial assessment, athletes are placed on one of our tailored performance pathways both of which are designed using our Training Backed by Science & Research Ethos: The DNA Athletic Academy (age 7+) or The DNA Elite Performance Program (age 16+). This ensures that every athlete follows a programme specifically designed to meet their age-appropriate needs and goals. To keep training fresh and engaging, our coaching staff frequently rotate, providing athletes with exposure to different coaching styles and philosophies, ensuring high levels of engagement and buy-in. This model promotes a strong sense of community while ensuring maximum progress and performance development.

DNA Athletic Academy (age 7+)

Building the Building Blocks of Elite Performance

The DNA Athletic Academy is a movement competency programme designed for young athletes aged 7 and up. At this stage, we focus on developing the foundational skills necessary for long-term athletic success. Our training is built around the Youth Physical Development Model (Ford et al., 2011), ensuring that every session is age-appropriate, scientifically grounded, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each young athlete.

Whether the goal is to improve strength, agility, or coordination, The DNA Athletic Academy aims to lay a solid foundation that will serve young athletes as they grow. Our expert coaching team focuses on enhancing movement competency, developing physical literacy, and building a strong athletic base that prepares athletes for the more advanced, sport-specific programming they will encounter in later years.

Key Features of the DNA Athletic Academy:

  • Movement Competency: We introduce young athletes to the fundamentals of movement—balance, flexibility, coordination, and agility. This ensures that they develop proper technique and avoid bad habits that can lead to injury down the line.
  • Age-Appropriate Training: Training is adjusted based on the athlete’s age, growth, and development. This approach is guided by the Youth Physical Development Model (Ford et al., 2011) to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Holistic Development: The programme incorporates exercises designed to improve strength, endurance, flexibility, and agility, creating well-rounded athletes who can progress to more sport-specific training when the time comes.
  • Injury Prevention: Special focus is placed on injury prevention, particularly through correct movement patterns and developing balanced muscle strength.

As athletes progress through The DNA Athletic Academy, they will be primed and ready for the next stage in their development, where the focus shifts to more specific training aligned with their chosen sport or higher-level goals.

DNA Elite Performance Programme (age 16+)

Precision Training for the Next Level of Athletic Mastery

After building a solid foundation in The DNA Athletic Academy, athletes aged 16 and up (or younger athletes with coach approval based on their competency) will progress into The DNA Elite Performance Programme. This higher-level training is designed to refine the skills, strength, and power that will take athletes to the next level in their performance. The focus shifts to elite athleticism, refining biomechanics, and addressing the physical demands of a chosen sport.

  • Sport-Specific Training: Advanced programming is tailored to the needs of the athlete’s specific sport, with exercises designed to increase power, endurance, speed, agility, and injury resistance based on the athlete’s position and demands.
  • Biomechanical Refinement: We fine-tune movement patterns, focusing on the biomechanics of each athlete’s sport to improve technique, enhance performance, and reduce injury risk.
  • Strength and Power Development: Emphasis on building explosive power, strength, and agility to meet the demands of competitive sport, including periodised training and tactical periodisation strategies.
  • High-Level Conditioning: Advanced conditioning techniques are employed to help athletes excel in their sport, improving cardiovascular fitness, muscle endurance, and explosiveness, ensuring they peak at the right time.
  • Personalised Approach: Tailored programmes based on the athlete’s goals, sport, and developmental stage, with expert coaching to guide progress and optimise training.

Progression from Youth to Advanced Programming:

The DNA Athletic Academy serves as the first step in an athlete’s journey, laying the groundwork with fundamental movement skills and physical literacy. As athletes mature and demonstrate the necessary competency, they will be invited to progress into The DNA Elite Performance Programme. This advanced programme takes their training to the next level, enhancing sport-specific performance through a focus on biomechanics, strength, speed, power, and injury prevention, helping athletes reach their highest potential.
